Bands and DJs 101

Planning a wedding can be intense. You’ve probably never been so busy. From the minute you set the date, it’s been all about your gown, clothes, the wedding location, flowers, bridesmaids, your honeymoon, shopping, registering and on and on…But thank goodness, you’ve hired a great band or a fabulous DJ. At least your music is taken care of.

Or is it?

Well…maybe. But don’t count on it. You’d be amazed at how many couples plan their weddings so carefully…even obsessively (!) only to let the ball drop where the most emotional and critical part of the wedding is concerned…their music.

So why is music so neglected, almost the ‘orphan’ of the wedding?

Wedding DJProbably because most couples think… ‘Our wedding DJ or band will take care of everything once we choose our favorite few songs’…Well, you could leave it all to the band or DJ you hire. Lots of people do. But that’s leaving the most important emotional part of your wedding to blind chance.

Like the time the DJ made the announcement for a couple’s first dance. Only thing… he forgot to get everybody’s attention. Oh…he also never bothered to coordinate the timing with the kitchen, and out came the plates and the trays and the distraction of the salad course being served just as the couple was starting to dance. When it was all over, no one ever knew there was a first dance. You can’t make up something so crazy, but this actually happened at a very expensive wedding.

Before You Hire Your Band or DJ …There are key things to know and to ASK …not only before but after you hire them. Here’s a link to some great checklists and questions to keep in mind when you’re interviewing and hiring your professionals. (Before You Hire a Band or DJ)

Already hired a band or DJ? Here’s some important pointers on what to do now. (After You Hire a Band or DJ)

Also, unless you have a pretty good idea of what you want, it’s the band or DJ’s choices that’ll rule. That’s not to say that they won’t have good ideas, but remember…it’s not their wedding. It’s yours. And in the final analysis, nobody knows what’s right for you better than you!
